Owl Sewing

This pattern is one of those Heather Bailey pincushions. Only it had so many pieces that I enlarged it about 25% for my first run at it. Now I'm ready for the original size!

November Already

My blog is not co-operating. I try to post pictures. They don't attach. I save posts, they never materialize. Blah, Blah blah....this rant ain't over.

Update

I promise I'll update my blog soon. I have been out of comission & getting on the computer is difficult. I broke my leg on 07/04/2015. Well actually...........I was walking around the yard & my husband was on top of the ladder. The grass was wet & he was putting pressure on the impact drill & the ladder shifted, and it fell OVER me. When my husban fell off the ladder he landed ON my ankle. Broke both the tibia & fibila about an inch above my ankle jpint. I had surgery to put me back together. Today is 6 weeks since my accident & I am still not allowed any weight on this leg. While the scars/scabs are fading, I'm still in a constant deal of pain. Its yucky. I hate it. And it;s going to be October before I can even THINK about walking, even then it will not be unassisted. Fir thise of you that are squeamish, dont look at the pictures. Ive come a long way & seeing the pictures gives me some hope that I'm headed in the right direction! I have to constantly readjust & ellivate my left leg. I just want to sleep for 8 more weeks & wake up able to walk again! We all know thats not happening........... So soon as I can actually get around to it, I'll post some more. I can't sit, so I cant sew by machine. If I time my pain meds just right, I can work on a rug for about 40/45 minuts 2 or 3 times a day. So boring. So is TV!!! TTYL M

Another Rug

i atarted another rug - I had some embroidery that needed doing & I have to have SOMETHING to do while the machine is running - so I warped my big frame. I used a poly-cotton to warp the frame - but the rest of ti will be all denim. I was gifted some denim strips all on rolls. Sure wish I knew where a person could find fabric on rolls like what you see in the first picture
this one is pretty blurry - sorry it was with my phone -
My Progress
Lots of denim lint & turns my hands & finger nails BLUE ! Maybe I'll have a shot at starring in AVATARII (maybe a cameo??? Ha Ha Ha!) Thanks For Looking! M

Mother's Day 2015

Had breakfast at Cracker Barrell with my husband, my sister & a freind. Then went to Lowe's. My daughter Ryan & her husband helped. We have 12 footers to dig. We got 4 done. The ground is so hard. Yes we had an auger. Yes we filled the holes with water. The water SAT in the holes like a bowl! There's that much clay in our soil. It was hot. I was hot, I was tired. OMGoodness this is such the hard part.
no sewing this past weekend none. M

Our Big Home Improvement Project for 2015

A deck. That's our project this summer. I hoping real hard that it doesn't take us all summer! But you never know. Our back deck was put on by the builders & it was there when we bought the house. It had an awning on it. While this is very nice to look at - we've been in this house since 2008 & the awning was beginning to show it's age. We'd treated it only once for leaking. Since the deck was "builder grade", it lacked...um...style? the spindles under the hand rails were 2X4's turned sideways. Again, it functioned very well. It was just time for a change! We spend a LOT of time on our back deck. It's like another living room during spring & summer. but at 12'X 16' you really couldn't get many people on it, nor could we have a screen door. So off the old awning came & down came the old deck! And construction begins! Here are a few BEFORE shots
During
And AFTER
We're thinking of taking a week's vacation this month to get the deck part done ASAP - as there is nothing out my kitchen door right now! Thanks for stopping by! M

A-Line Jumpers - For Dolls

The pattern for the A-Line was one I purchsed ...oh...maybe 2009? I don't know, can't remember. It was designed for the 18" American Girl Dolls. I enlarged it to 128% for the My Twinn Doll. The shirt is from a pattern by Debbie Glenn (Love & Stitches) I morphed 2 patterns. The collar from a yoke dress & the shirt sleeves & cuff from the petti-blouse pattern. Again , enlarged to 128% for the My Twinn Doll. The My Twinn doll has an entegrated plastic armature in her body - so her arms, legs, and head are extrememly posable - however...since it has that armature, the arms are cloth to ablout midways on the upper arm - that's why I make the sleeves so long on this doll. No! I do not collect dolls. I just really like SEWING for them. One day I'll be able to sew for another little girl. Maybe a grand daughter. Until then? I get my fix sewing for dolls. They don't complain anyway! Nor do they care if it's not their favorite color or too tight or anything. So it's a win-win sewing time for ME! Collars. Oh boy! I have a confession. When I finished the jumpers for the dolls I had these grand plans of a piped collar with a fabric ruffle. I made the collar for the shirt for the My Twinn Doll (whom I call Mary Jane) I sewed that piped ruffled collar to the shirt. It was SO bulky. The facing would not turn to the inside, and even after I topstitched it down, it still looked like WINGS around the neck. So I trashed it & started over. Totally threw that first one away. I was just disgusted with it. I put rick-rack on it instead. And since the collar on the AG Doll was so stinking small there was no way I was even going to TRY doing that!
Thanks for Looking! M

Braids

I don't really need any new projects. But I started one anyway. Last month I was in Pigeon Forge at the quilt show. (Was there last year as well) We watched a demonstration on using an acrylic binding tool to make a Braid Quilt. Watched the same demo last year. (Are you seeing a trend here..?) I didn't buy the tool last year as I dont need a tool for binding. I figured those biases out all on my own. I'm smart like that. But? This year I bought one. Mainly because the lady doing the demonstration was using a jelly roll of Civil War Repro's. My favorites! Turns out I already had one of these gadgets anyway! Now I have 2. Yesterday I had already planned on going to a freinds house and sewing. The internet was down at work and I work in an online program & all my "work" comes to me via email. No internet? No work. Darn. So I left early & went to my freinds house. 2 of us were using 2.5 inch strips and cornerstones, the other was using 1.5" strips left over from a PP Pineapple she just finished. Here are our pictures from yesterday:
This first picture is MY braid. I am using pre-cut 2.5" jelly roll strips and 2.5" squares as my cornerstones. I feel confident that if you eliminated the cornerstones, that you could vary the width of your stips. Might try that one day - but seeing as I am really rotten at personal deadlines - I don't make them for myself & need to finish this quilt before I say what I'm doing on the "next one" !
MY braid again (above)
this one is being made with 1.5" strips - she didn't want to cut new strips, and used what she had on hand
This is Phillis (yes, I spelled that right!) and she is doing hers scrappy & intends for it to be a charity quilt. Both Phillis & i sewed on our Singer Featherweights. I had showed Philly a hand crank attachment for my Featherweight & then couldn't get it off! The machine won't fit in the case with the hand crank on. Took 2 of us to finally get it off. If you unscrew the CORRECT screw it comes off pretty easy. Who Knew???? Thanks For Stopping By! M PS - it occurred to me that you might want to SEE that little acrylic binding tool.........

Mittens For My Grandson

Made from a sweater I bought at a Thrift Store in Franklin, TN - If you didn't know these were made from a sweater you couldn't tell! Should be big enough to get him thru another year or two. The cuffs were a leeetle challenging to attach.
